The absence of powerboat racing adds a relaxed tone, alleviating challenges related to docking and lodging faced during the November edition. Participants enjoy the freedom to explore attractive boating hotspots like scenic Boca Grande in the Mule Keys, typically closed to recreational boaters in November.
The poker run unfolds with a Thursday morning departure from Miami, beginning with rendezvous starts at Haulover Inlet and Grove Harbour Marina in Coconut Grove. The course progresses southbound through Biscayne Bay, featuring a lunch stop at the iconic Gilbert’s Resort in Key Largo. Continuing through the Upper Keys, optional fuel stopovers in Marathon precede the final leg to Key West. Arrival times in Key West typically occur late afternoon, around 4 pm, with docking options at the Conch Republic Seafood Company docks serving as the event headquarters. The Hyatt Centric, located steps away from the boats, serves as the host hotel. Boating activities include day trips to popular destinations, such as Boca Grande on Friday and Woman Key on Saturday, with more adventurous teams possibly exploring Fort Jefferson at Dry Tortugas National Park, weather permitting.
