Super Stock Powerboat Racing in Key West is a thrilling component of the Race World Offshore World Championship, held annually in November. This event draws top offshore racing teams from around the world to compete on a challenging 4.4-mile-per-lap course that features both rough and calm water conditions, testing the skill, equipment endurance, and design of the racing boats. The Super Stock class, known for its high-speed action, sees boats capable of reaching speeds up to 140 mph, offering spectators an adrenaline-pumping spectacle. The races are part of a broader week-long celebration that includes a parade of participating boats, social events, and opportunities for fans to meet racers and crews at the Truman Waterfront Race Village.
During the Key West Offshore World Championship, Super Stock boats, along with other classes, race on days that are scheduled to avoid adverse weather conditions, ensuring safety and excitement for both participants and spectators. The races are visible from several prime locations like Mallory Square and harborfront hotels, but the Truman Waterfront Park, especially the Outer Mole pier, provides one of the best vantage points. Here, fans can witness the boats in action, feel the roar of the engines, and even experience the spray from the water as the high-speed crafts zip by. The event not only showcases the technical prowess of the boats and teams but also highlights Key West’s unique setting, making it a must-see for any powerboat racing enthusiast.
