The World Speed Records Ocean Cup SS Sapona Challenge involves a round trip from Miami to Bimini, Bahamas, and back to Miami. The event’s focal point is the SS Sapona, which ran aground during a hurricane in 1926. This historic shipwreck, used as a bombing target, rests in about 15 feet of water a few miles south of Bimini. Notably, five bombers mysteriously disappeared after a practice run near the wreckage site.
